Everything is converted in your browser and never uploaded. Privacy policy
Drop a Word file here or

.docx, up to 25 MB. Older .doc files need to be saved as .docx first (see below). Hindi text is converted and set in the Kruti Dev 010 font. English text, numbers, tables and layout stay as they are.

Have an older .doc or .xls file? Save it as .docx or .xlsx first

Word files that end in .doc use an old format we can't read. Saving a copy as .docx takes under a minute and doesn't change your text or fonts.

Microsoft Word on Windows (Word 365, 2021, 2019, 2016)

  1. Open the .doc file in Word. If a yellow bar says Protected View, click Enable Editing.
  2. Click File, then Save As (in newer versions it may say Save a Copy), then Browse.
  3. Next to Save as type, choose Word Document (*.docx).
  4. Click Save. Upload the new .docx file here.

Word shows [Compatibility Mode] next to the name of a .doc file. That is normal. Renaming the file from .doc to .docx does not work; it has to be saved from Word.

Word on Mac

  1. Open the file, then click File and Save As…
  2. Set File Format to Word Document (.docx), then click Save.

Word 2010 or 2007

Click File (or the round Office button in 2007), then Save As, and choose Word Document (*.docx) under Save as type.

LibreOffice or WPS Office (free)

Open the file, click File, then Save As, choose Word 2007-365 (.docx) (WPS: Microsoft Word Files (*.docx)) and save. If asked, keep the current format.

Old Excel files (.xls)

Open the file in Excel, click File, then Save As, choose Excel Workbook (*.xlsx) under Save as type and save. In LibreOffice or WPS choose Excel 2007-365 (.xlsx). Renaming .xls to .xlsx does not work.

Please don't use Google Docs for this: it can replace the Krutidev font with another one, and then we can't tell which text to convert.

Questions

What is Krutidev?

Krutidev 010 is an older Hindi typing font, still common in government offices, courts and typing exams. It maps Hindi letters onto English keys, so the text only reads as Hindi when that font is installed.

Is Unicode the same as Mangal?

Mangal is one Unicode Hindi font. Once your text is Unicode you can show it in Mangal or any other Unicode font.

Is my text stored anywhere?

No. The conversion runs inside your browser, so your text and files never leave your device. Read the privacy policy for details.

Can I convert an old .doc file?

Not directly. Open it in Microsoft Word, choose File, Save As, pick "Word Document (.docx)", and upload the new .docx file. It takes under a minute, and the page "Convert .doc to .docx" has the steps for every version of Word, LibreOffice and WPS. Old Excel .xls files work the same way: save them as .xlsx first.

Is it free?

Yes, with no sign-up.
